2D Wire Frame FE-Analysis:

A 2D wire frame is undertaken to compute large structures in FE-Analysis. As an example, below is the hatch cover of a Multi Purpose vessel. This model can be rigorously analysed for all scenarios that occur when transporting heavy loads.

The re-creation of the hatch-cover, tween-deck or the lower-hold of a vessel is commonly undertaken at MBM to confirm the structural integrity to transport cargo’s in sea going conditions.

 

Below are the 4 stages of the analysis:

 

• Stage 1 – Drawings are acquired.

• Stage 2 – Confirmation of dimensions from drawings with a Hatch Survey on the vessel.

 

The vessel under analysis will be visited by the Naval architect to confirm the scantling drawings provided. This is to ensure:

a) The drawings provided correspond to the hatch under analysis.

b) Modifications, corrosion, erosion, cracks, or imperfections are recorded.

At MBM we continually undertake assessments of hatch-covers and tween-decks for Heavy lift cargo to assess deflections and material properties for loading conditions and sea going forces. As an example, these may include but are not limited to stress, strain, and buckling scenarios that will occur from impact conditions caused from slamming.
