According to the cargo particulars especially its height, it can be encountered the requirement of raising tween decks to allow the transportation of cargo. In this kind of cases, a new structures need to be provided with overall functionality with operationally practicality and work-ability and can be analysed and determined to be a safe working structure. To achieve this, structural members should be designed in accordance with real boundary conditions to resist the actual forces. First of all, forces caused by the motions of the vessel is calculated from predetermined stowage condition. Once getting the forces, the dimensions of the structural member can be decided. In this specific case, the existing horse head is renewed by adding 79 cm steel block on the top surface. Renewed horse head is modelled in the software. Proper mesh and material type are applied to the model. Forces obtained from motion analysis applied to the renewed horse head’s surfaces which are subjected to these forces. Horse head is located in a box which represents the real configuration of horse head in a vessel hold. After running a static Finite Element Analysis, the stress values, distribution and displacements are obtained. Assessment of the results shows that the renewed structure is safe to carry this load.
