Macchi Boilers – weight spreading

At MBM we specialize in providing solutions for the transportation of heavy and oversized cargo. Our team of experts have extensive knowledge and experience in various fields, such as structural analysis, weight spreading, vessel motion analysis, and force flow analysis. Additionally, we will discuss our approach to the project, including the outline, boundaries, input, and analysis. We will also highlight the technical reports and engineering drawings that we provided, which ensured the safe and efficient transportation of the cargo. Moreover, our page will demonstrate the expertise and attention to detail that we bring to every project we undertake. From project outline to final manufacturing engineering drawings, we will walk you through our comprehensive analysis and solutions for weight spreading on the hatchcovers of an MPV Heavy lifter carrying two Macchi Boilers.

Macchi Boilers – weight spreading – Project outline.

To give a comprehensive overview of our project, we will begin by outlining the project’s scope, boundaries, and inputs. Additionally, we will delve into the analysis performed and the technical reports provided to ensure a safe and efficient cargo transportation operation. Moreover, we will provide insights into the manufacturing engineering drawings created for the project, including lifting lug calculations, structural strength calculations, and 3D stowage plans.

Finally, we will showcase our capability to assess each heavy cargo individually and provide optimal weight spreading solutions.. Additionally, we will demonstrate our capabilities through our 3D stowage plan and explain how we assessed each heavy cargo individually for weight spreading. At MBM Consultancy Ltd, we are committed to providing customized solutions that meet our clients’ needs and requirements.

•To provide a suitable weight spreading structure to enable two x 270 ton Macchi Boilers to be loaded on the Hatchcovers of an MPV Heavy lifter.

Project boundaries.

•The combined boundaries – the vessel hatch strength capacity, a high CofG, and a small cargo footprint.

Project input.

•Vessel particulars
•Stowage arrangement
•Cargo particulars

Project analysis.

•A finalised stowage location
•Vessel motion analysis based on the vessel particulars and loading condition provided in the stowage arrangement.
•A technical report is provided to the Port Captain’s with position’s to locate the HEB’s, weld locations, and cargo positions.
•To ensure the safe transportation of the cargo, our team provided assistance to the surveying company. This enabled them to sign off on a safe passage based on the analysis we provided, which indicated the hatch strength and stress values.
•After identifying all the structural and regulation issues, MBM Consultancy Ltd proceeded to resolve them and provide a workable, cost-effective solution.

Additionally, the reports included lifting lug calculations, as well as structural strength calculations for the cradles, cradle stoppers, and hatch covers. These calculations took into account factors such as stress, strain, deflection, buckling, and weld strength.
The reports also provided the final manufacturing engineering drawings for the cradles and stoppers, and the stowage locations of the cradles to assist the Port captains during the loading operations.

Furthermore, the 3D stowage plan demonstrates the optimised layout that was achieved after conducting vessel motion analysis and force flow analysis through the cargo cradle, the HEB’s, and into the vessel hatch structure, ultimately reaching the hatch coamings.

Additionally, all the heavy cargo’s shown in the picture required weight spreading. Consequently, we assessed each one individually, and combined where required. As a result, we can do the same for you.
