When MBM was approached to conceive a solution to transport 1,000,000 tons of sludge water, it first seamed simplistic analysis of a free surface within a hold.

However, as the project gained momentum, the detail design to solve all issues of settling during transport, loading and discharge were considered, it quickly became apparent that a more detailed structurally engineered solution was required.

The vessel motions analysis presented interesting results. With much learnt and gained from the analysis regarding methods to reduce free surface stability issues. New innovative design concepts for ballast/fuel tanks were conceived.

From the “Free Form water flow analysis”, we derived that impact slamming of the underdeck was occurring. This result also implied the occurrence in vessel ballast tanks and fuel tanks. Reduction in these phenomenon can now be developed due to this cargo transport analysis.
