MBM undertake again the rolling of RTG’s on the deck of a vessel, from one Hold to another, and also the relocation of the RTG’s transversely, in order to stow 4. This required careful operational know-how, and understanding of the force flow through the steel structures and of the deflections of the steel plates.
The forces applied from the Rubber tyres, to the steel plates do not generate a perfect translation of evenly distributed weight spread through the steel plate to the dunnage underneath.
Understanding the principles involved assists the engineer to generate an FEM model to confirm the flow of forces in to the hatch covers plating, and consequently to the longitudinal and main transversal frames.
The loading operation and manoeuvres on-board went as planned and all RTG’s were delivered successfully.
